Born in 1994 as the eldest sibling, Nivetha had to look after her younger siblings while her parents were at work. She played old VHS tapes to entertain her siblings and herself. These were mainly Harry Potter and Kollywood films starring superstar Rajinikanth. She has Tamil roots from Sri Lanka and grew up watching Kollywood (Tamil cinema) and therefore represents a wider geographical origin. She is inspired by Indian films as they give hope to audiences across social classes. Even though the themes of poverty and corruption are tough, the message is conveyed in a playful tone. With a rich cultural background that includes both Western and South Asian film references, she is drawn to creating life-affirming films and unconventional approaches to both camera and storytelling that stimulate the imagination.

Nivetha is the first to win two Pitch Me Baby awards on OFF.  First in 2016 with her autobiographical web series ‘Meena’, which premiered at Kunsthal Charlottenborg and Villa Kultur - an installation that had a mesmerising effect on the audience. Later in 2023 with her upcoming graduation film ‘Etniske Smerter’. In addition, she has participated in a panel debate during CPH:DOX talk, been nominated for a DR talent award and worked as a teacher for Netflix in connection with Serieskolen. On a daily basis, Nivetha studies at the The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where she is currently taking her Master's degree in Media Art in addition to her studies at Super16. Furthermore, she contributes as a volunteer in the scholarship committee at Danish Film Directors and the User Group at the Copenhagen Film Workshop, where she focuses on visualising funds to attract new filmmakers.
